Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is transmitted to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies any results. Warren County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
When a visitor sends an email, the message is retained as needed to respond. It remains within the site team unless disclosure is required by a valid legal duty.
Data We Gather Automatically
Loading a page can cause the server to collect routine technical information about the visit:
- Page-view dates and times
- The referring website, when one is supplied
- Pages viewed and the time spent on them
- Device type and operating system
- Browser name and version
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and analytics services help show, in aggregate, how visitors move through the site, including which pages receive traffic and where visits end. A browser can be configured to reject cookies, although doing so may change how some site functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing a search request to the selected partner service
- Maintaining site availability and page speed
- Finding and correcting technical failures
- Measuring which pages visitors use
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Warren County Criminal History does not maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to records held by the Warren County Sheriff's Office, Iowa District Court, Iowa DCI, and the Iowa Sex Offender Registry. The site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not turned into a consumer report or a third-party criminal-history file. Iowa Code chapter 692 governs state criminal-history data collection and dissemination, but this private site is not the DCI repository.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the site's search boxes. Information submitted through a box is handled under that provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider controls its retention and disclosure practices. Visitors should read those terms before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to sheriff pages, court portals, Iowa agency resources, legal aid organizations, or outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's privacy policy controls. Review it before providing personal information.
Some advertising providers may use their own systems to follow activity across websites and select targeted advertisements. Warren County Criminal History does not operate that tracking.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal information is not sold. It may be disclosed to:
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
- Advertising networks that serve ads on the site
- Search providers that process a visitor's chosen query
- Government or law enforcement bodies when a valid legal order compels disclosure
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for information the site collects. No internet-connected service can guarantee perfect security, however, so Warren County Criminal History cannot promise that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If information from a minor is identified, it will be deleted after notice is received.
Your Data Rights
Applicable privacy and consumer-protection law may provide rights over personal data. Iowa's Open Records Law, Iowa Code chapter 22, governs access to public agency records, while Iowa Code chapter 692 governs criminal-history data held and disseminated by the state. Those laws do not turn this private website into a government record custodian. Subject to the law that applies, a visitor may:
- Opt out of data processing when that choice is legally available
- Request deletion of covered personal information
- Ask to correct inaccurate information
- Request a copy of covered information maintained about the visitor
Updates to This Policy
This privacy policy may be revised. Any replacement will be posted on this page and will display its new effective date. Visitors should review the current version to understand how information is handled.
